Recommended to convert all files from 2006 to 2007?

I was curious what people's experiences were going fromSolidworks 2006 to 2007? Was it easier to try to convert allfiles in the database to 2007? Or is it better to convert only whena file needs to be modified/updated?

I understand that leaving them in 2006 format tends to take longerto pull up assemblies. Also, I am assuming that you cannot convertread-only files?

We are weighing the option of mass-converting all of the files asopposed to leaving them alone, and curious to hear other people'sexperiences and the pros and cons.

I've been involved with a few companies that have switched from oneCAD package to another. My advise is to consider a few things whenthinking of mass file conversion;
1. quantity of files to convert
2. does your company have someone dedicated to verifying that thefiles convert cleanly as often they do not.
3. keeping a license of the old CAD system for legacy purposes.

You may find to mass convert will cause more problems than yourcompany has resources to handle.

If your typical assembly pushes the limits of your hardware, you definitely want to eke as much performance as possible, and that would include running SWCW. I have done studies that prove it takes longer to open prior-version files, and have seen cases where very old files actually have problems when opened in a far-newer version. SW actually converts the files on-demand anyway, so by running SWCW you save the software some work.

I think it's best to not leave files more than one version behind. Also you have to consider any PDM/PLM system you are running before deciding what to do about prior-versioned files. (Believe me, I know - that adds a layer of complexity to everything.)
