I am quite new in to sheet metal. I am having problem with unbending some parts. Zip file contains two parts that are welded together. The file with name kos1_2 can be unbent but the part with name kos1 cannot be unbent. Every time when I hit flattpatern button it say that this part contains feature that cannot be unbent. If you are wondering why I have such strange way of modeling it is becouse I find this way the only possible that can show me bend lines on flatpattern drawing latter.
do you maybe have any idea why I can flaten the other part? and is it possible to make this cut in some other way?
Sorry I don't have that much experience with sheet metal. I played around with it a little bit trying different things but I couldn't get it to work. I have no idea why the other part works, because that one doesn't have the Normal Cut option checked either.
It's not problem with normal cut becouse other 15 pieces works normaly without normal cut. Thank you for your time.
Only thing different in the files I can see in general needed to flatten is that you leave the edge behind in the one that works.
Normal Cut would also do it for you, (leave an usable edge to flatten).
Just leave some usable edge behind, see image. You can cut that off later.
But at least it flattens
How open are you to alternative techniques?
(I can tell you I would do this quite differently - starting with fully constrained sketches, no 3D sketches adn no extra workplanes).
Edit: Never mind - I missed your explanation for reason of modeling the way you do - don''t have time to see if my technique would satisfy your needs for the bend lines.
Thank you so much for this. Your solution is perfect becouse I can cut the rest of in autocad.
I am open to alternative techniques. I just sad that this is the only way that I found for modeling sheet metal cones to see bend lines in flat pattern becouse only solid works have this feature but you need to have basic shape of cone on parralel planes.
The problem lies somewhere in Cut-Extrude3, and it might be due to the fact that you don't have "Normal Cut" selected. It might not like the face that the end faces aren't perpendicular to the surface of the sheet metal. The cut doesn't work if "Normal Cut" is checked, so I don't really know how to help.
