Can I use a spline to create a sheet metal part, and get a flat pattern generated?  I thought I might be able to use lofted bend, but can not get that to work

The part is a "sweeping" type curve, that is say 10" in length.  The actual shape never changes.  In the real world, it is made by hand, partially stage bending / forming.
