Cone, simple part ?

Hi,

How to create a cone ?
If I loft 2 sketches, on flat development I can not dimensionradius because
looks like it is spline not radius.
If I revolve lets say 359.9° I have biger gap at larger dia.
If I revolve 360° I have to make a cut. This cut can not be swept,it has to be
lofted cut.
Is it any better way to do it ?

Maybe the result not will be perfect radius if a cone is flattened like this.
I use convert entities on the straight cone edges. Make arcs connected to the endpoints of these lines and sat relations between the midpoint of the arcs and the curved edges of the flat cone.
Then there could be dimensions sat to those arcs.

The attached sheet metal cone exhibits true arcs in the flattened state.

My method: revolve a line 359 ° to create a thin cone, add a flat surface, then insert bends.

Insert bends wants a flat surface. Cones don't have flat surfaces. To trick the system I created an extrude off of one end of the slit in the cone and extruded it .1 mm (you could make it shorter).

To insert bends, select a face on the short extrude that is tangent to the cone, then Insert>Sheet Metal>Bends.

I realize the trick extrude isn't "realistic", but if you make it short enough, it probably won't be a problem in manufacturing. It is quite likely that there will be a short flat section as an artifact of the rolling process.

  Gerald, You have larger gap at bottom.
  You do not need extrude, you can use edge instead of surface toinsert bends.

    Thanks for the tip on selecting the edge! Old dogs can learn new tricks.
    
    This time I did the revolve a full 360° and then did a thin cut to create a parallel gap.

      Thank you, I like that. The only caveat is with picking the edgefor inserting bends.
      Only cut made by surface going thru cone's axis produces validedges (lines),
      other edges are not lines.
