When taking my part from solidworks to composer it does not retain its carbon fiber look I have assigned to it. Any idea on how to correct his or what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for your help and time..
Any appearances or materials applied to your part / assembly in Solidworks will not import into Composer as of now. You're are going to have to apply your appearance in Composer using a texture map.
Actually, you can get your textures to appear from SOLIDWORKS into Composer. Keep in mind, this only works for texture(appearances) and not decals.
This was actually addressed in version v6r2012 with SPR#535948
Ability to import textures applied to SolidWorks files into 3DVIA Composer
With the release of 3DVIA Composer V6R2012, you can now import textures from 3DXML files. This enhancement brings about a workaround for SolidWorks files. SolidWorks files that have textures applied can be exported to 3DXML and then imported into Composer.
Basically if you have a custom texture applied through an appearance in SOLIDWORKS, save your part as a 3DXML file format and then open that file in Composer and you will have your textures.
Good to know. I will have to check this out.
As Alex indicated, we did add this functionality via the 3DXML route. Note that this only applies to appearances that have raster images applied. Any appearance that changes surface finish will not be transferred. Additionally, the trade-off of saving models to 3DXML from SW is that the Custom Property information will not be applied.
