In SW 2014 SP0.0 I can't seem to get a sheet metal design to flatten. I know what features (Sketched Bend26 and Sketched bend 27) are causing the error but I'm not sure why. Any help is appreciated for troubleshooting. Thanks!
I believe it is because the "V" notches are going all the way down to the tangent of the bend. SW does not usually like that.
nope, that didnt work. Sorry
I opened your file and tried to change a few things but I could not get the part to flatten by unsupressing the Flat Pattern. I even tried putting the 2 folds along the top edges after the 4 vertical folds but this did not work either. The only way I could get it to flatten was but using the unfold tool. I know its not how it should be done but you could create a new configuration called flat pattern and then use the unfold tool to flatten the part in this configuration, it's a work around but it does work.
I'm pretty sure it's because the bends 26 and 27 get bent again, so those bend lines are no longer straight lines. I think you have a couple options.
1. At the end of the tree (but still before the Flat Pattern) add an unfold feature where you unfold everything except Sketched Bend26 and 27. The you'll be able to flatten the rest. Once you add a flat pattern view to your drawing and it creates the flat pattern configuration, just make sure the Unfold feature is unsuppressed in the flat pattern configuration and suppressed in the Default configuration. See the attached file. Note that clicking the Flatten button while you are in the Default config doesn't work, but you can view the flat pattern by manually changing to the flat pattern config.
2. I think it also might work to break each of those sketched bends into 5 different sketched bends, one for each continuous section between V grooves.
Here's the part with my second method. However for some reason it takes my PC like 2 minutes to flatten it. I thought SW was frozen but it eventually happened.
Thanks Jamil, that works for me.
