Can you create motion between configurations?

To keep it simple, I want to "slowly" show a pin move into a hole. I have a configuration called "out" that has a distance mate that puts the pin completley out of the hole. I have another configuration called "in" that has a coincident mate that puts the pin completly in the hole. At 0 seconds I would like to see "out" and at 4 seconds I would like to see "in". And of course, see the pin move from "out" to "in" over the 4 seconds of time.

The best I can do is to get it to jump from one configuration to the other with no visual movement in between.

Correct Answer

Move time bar at 0 sec. Double click on the key for distance and set the value for distance 3". Than move the time bar to 10 sec, for example, and create another key for distance in this point. Double click on key and set the distance value to 0". A blue bar will show between keys. Click on calculate. Hit play to see the results. Solidworks will gradually change the value for that distance from 3" at 0 sec to 0" at 10 sec.

You can simply change the distance value at 4 sec such that pin is out. Hence no need to switch configurations.

Hello Deepak,

Where do I change the distance value, on the mate itself (in the motion study interface) or is there some other place to define a distance? I still want the original distance mate. It still jumps down without a slow movement. Sorry for my ignorance, I have not done this in awhile. I've attached a quick little model if you wnat to look at it.

Move your time bar to 0 sec. Right click on the distance mate and select unsuppress. Finally click on calculate.

Sorry but my system is still down and I'm using a friend's machine to check your file, so can't post any video.

Thanks for helping me on this. Both answers got me on the right track. So is this statement true? "As long as you already have a distance mate in your model, you can change that distance in Motion Study anywhere, at any time by changeing the value (Distance/distance) in the motion interface. Each section of time will retain the new distance you have input and will not effect the distance of the original mate."
