Hello,
I am running out of space on my 120 gb current SSD drive, so I am willing to upgrade it to 250 GB. Currently I am thinking about Samsung SSD. My computer:
Lenovo Thinkpad W530
I7 3520M @ 2.90 GHz (2 Cores 4 Threads)
8 Gb Ram
Nvidia Quadro Q1000M
Currently I am working with small to medium assemblies in SW 2012. Maybe we will upgrade to SW 2015, but I am not yet sure (it depends on my company's policy). In the near future I will study Simulation, as far as other products like Catia, and maybe some other engineering packages - so this computer will be used mostly for studying.
I would appreciate your advice between these two discs: Samsung 850 Pro and 840 Evo. Pro has a few GB more space, which actually makes no difference. The considered field is the other performance parameters: on certain tasks 850 Pro is a little, and in other tasks - much faster, according to benchmarks, e.g.:
UserBenchmark: Samsung 840 Evo 250GB vs 850 Pro 256GB
But mentioned computer is for personal use, is not too fast, and is already 2 years old. Based on my setup and tasks, do you think Pro series will have a performance advantage on my system? Pro is a little more expensive, and I am not sure if I can feel the difference in this computer, maybe you have some advice on this?
Thank you for your ideas!
So, after some time on this issue, I found the solution. I used windows 7 program "Resource monitor", to find out that basic 3d cad work and simulations takes absolutely no disk actiity. During work with assembly and later with simulation, Solidworks even dissapeared every once in a while from the list of programs, which used to use the hard drive. When it was in the list, it was working at a few MB/S, meaning almost nothing. So, like mentioned, unless you are working in the file server, or rendering large videos, the speed of PRO series should be berely noticable . So I decided to go with EVO series. Hope this helps for somebody
