Can EPDM generate a bar code from the drawing number on the drawing sheet?
Download a barcode font, and make a note on your template with the number property and set it to that font.
Not out of box. An add-in could be written to generate this.
Yes, I did the same, works fine :-)
Can I ask you if there's any special workarounds to do this? I can get the bar code on the drawing, but our scanners can't read them. It's the exact same font that is on our work tickets/shop orders.
First make sure you are not changing the width/aspect ratio of the barcode, the spacing between the lines is important. Next check to see if the font you are using is compatible with the scanner...there are several barcode fonts out there, not all work with all scanners.
Thanks, I have an email out to the people who create our reports. I set everything to the same font height, I thought that would automatically scale the aspect ratio. Hopefully that is the solution.
Ensure this annotation feature is OFF! "Fit Text" is bad for barcodes.
Another thought...the scanners I have used require an "*" before and after the string. i.e. if you want the scanner to read "123" your text needs to be "*123*"
Here is an article I wrote on this subject a few years ago. barcodes Archives - 3DVision Blog
Thanks Jeff! I'll try these when I get another chance to mess around with this. Those are definitely 2 things I wouldn't have thought of.
Thanks! Should be fine now.
