Hi all
I'm quite a novice to Solidworks. I have been set a task to model a crankshaft case which I will attach photos off. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to start designing it!
It doesn't have to be incredibly accurate but it has to follow the general shape.

Start with any basic shapes you can see on the part, circles, rectangles, etc., and build on from there. From a quick look, all of the features appear to be square/at right angles from each other, so it doesn't look too bad. Do you have a pair of calipers to measure with? Have you done any of the SW tutorials? Get started, and when you get stuck, post your SW part file up here and let us know what you need help with.

So, I think the way to go about this is to mentally break it down into functions, because that how they did it originally.
Start with the crankshaft enclosure. Leave out ribs and bosses, then shell it.
I prefer to leave machined surfaces until the end.
You will be learning a lot on this project.
