Shortening parts' primary.secondary revision scheme to show only primary revision level in assembly BOM

Discussion created by Greg Van Arsdale on Apr 10, 2007
We use primary revisions for product design changes.
We use secondary revisions for minor documentation changes.

People get freaked out when they see "02.004" listed in the rev column of a BOM.
We would like to set up part templates that would report only the primary revision in an assembly BOM.

Can I set up a part template's DT to get the current revision of the (eventual) part when opened from the PDMWorks Vault: "03.005"
and have it return the interger: "3"
which would in turn become the part's custom property that would be reported an assembly's BOMs reevision column.
or
would I try to do this in an Equation in our SW templates?

I was advised to cross post this thread from the Design Tables / Configs forum, by John Burrill.
