I am attempting to model a party hat as close to the pixelated image above. I want to add white polka dots to the face of the cone, but there are no current textures in solidworks for polka dots. Would wrapping a sketch of a circle to a conical face be an option? Thanks!
Using an image as an appearance would be super easy, but it might be hard to get the pattern to look right. For more control I think wrapping is the way to go. You can create a plane tangent to the cone aligned with each dot, then sketch a circle and wrap it. With the wrap you could even try the emboss option if you want, although you may not want the dots raised. I believe you will be 3D printing it, right? So you might want raised dots just for added texture. Check out my example. I did scribe wraps and just changed the face colors, but you can change them to emboss and see if you like it. Also note that I only did dots on one side and then used a circular pattern to copy them to the other side. It just saves some time.
