I have a very specific question:
I’m trying to render a cable in SolidWorks Electrical 3D.
It’s a 12 wire, 26AWG cable between two Hypertronics 17-pin
male connectors with solder cups on the back.
So, I’ve defined the connectors in SolidWorks Electrical, as
17-pin sub-D connectors. I linked the part number with the 3D model that I
downloaded off the Online Content tab in the Manufacturer Parts Manager.
Now, I open the 3D footprint in SolidWorks (2014). I have
the following Add-ins set: SolidWorks Routing, SolidWorks Toolbox, Solidworks
Toolbox Browser, SolidWorks Workgroup PDM 2014, SolidWorks Composer, SolidWorks
Electrical, and 3Dcontrol.
I have sketch points placed in the center of all 17 solder
cups, and I want to use the Electrical Component Wizard to define the pin
assignments on the 3D model. I open the wizard and define the Left, Right, Top
and Bottom faces. Next window, I set the TREWBACK Mate reference for the back
of the connector (I suspect this isn’t necessary). Next window, I click
on Create Connection Point by Reference, and the window comes up with a glaring
omission:
I see the Message in yellow with instructions 1-4.
I see the Create connection points window, which has a
button titled “Select manufacturer part” and another titled “Select sketch
point”, BUT there is NO WINDOW with the headers “TERMINAL”, “Circuit
description”, etc. . The window simply isn’t there, and it has to be for this
to work. I’ve selected the manufacturer part (which I created in SolidWorks
Electrical) and nothing changes (I’ve tried this a lot, with many variations on
the manufacturer part).
Are we missing some software? Any idea what might be causing
this?
