I don't think that is a valid Knowledge base article. But in either case you CAN do this as part of Advanced Scripting.
You just need to use the EPDM API to access variable value. I do this now to add a suffix of the current REV or VERSION onto the Create PDF Task.
I did use the information from the knowledge base to access variables from the database for use in the output filename but I can't find the article anymore...
I have attached the 'advanced script' from my task that contains the relevant code to replace the three variables "PartNumber", "Revision" and "Description" from the output path.
Note that this is the script from EPDM 2012 - The ONLY code added is highlighted but you should edit your own script just in case.

Thanks for the responses - will just have to comb through the code examples that are out there - it just seemed that there was a more specific example to what I was trying to accomplish.
S-061104 is missing from the SWX Knowledge Base, unfortunately.
I've been comparing S-054527 and S-062476 to use a variable value from the source file in the folder name of the output path.
S-054527 – ‘How to modify convert task to use variable value from source file in output file name’
S-061104 – ‘How to modify convert task to use variable value from source file in folder name of output path’
S-062476 – ‘ How to modify convert task to use user name in folder name of output path?’
I noticed that EPDM 2015 SP1.1 limits how much text you can enter into the "Advanced Scripting Options". Getting close to the max at ~34,000 chars.
