WPDM vault reporting output window doesn't have latest revision of a part.

Hi,

Attached image shows my working scenario. I know this topic has been already explained in different ways, but I am still looking for better answers.

I don't want part revision roll up to a top assembly.

When I want to change something in a part, I just check-out a part and change and check-in back to the vault.

But when I want to create part list using vault's reporting feature, it doesn't show latest revision in revision field of corresponding part.

is it not a practice what I am trying to do i.e. not rolling up part revision to top assembly? OR

is it WPDM's limitation?

I guess the information that is displayed in the Reporting area is pulled from the top assembly, and until the assembly is rebuilt with the new rev parts and checked back in it won't have the latest revisions. It would be nice if there was a way to "refresh" the assembly in the vault instead of needing to check it out and then check it back in.

      Hi Jerry,
      Should I check-out a part and an assembly both or just a part which needed to be changed?
      
      I tried both, but didn't work for me. Still a same problem.

        I haven't used EPDM. Will EPDM has same problem like this.

      it worked this way;
      1. in vault admin, allow revision overwrite
      2. check out both a part and an assy.
      3. make a change in a part
      4. check in assemby and part but over write assy's revision manually to prevent roll up
      
      but this is not how it should work. what if there are multiple child and parent levels.

        When you are checking the assy/part/drawing back into the vault and you are not ready to have the rev update, select "working copy" as the rev level. This will show the rev containing a "+" sign. The rev will not update until you are checking it in as a regular revision.

        First of all, please explain me one thing.
        whenever parts get revised, is it necessary to advance the revision on parent sub-assy or assy? If yes, why solidworks pdm doesn't have feature of showing all parents in a check-out list automatically when child part is checked-out?
        what is the meaning of showing all child parts when parent assy. is checked out? when assy is revised, it is not necessary its child parts get affected.
        Either I don't know how to use PDM or I am missing something here.

        Whether or not an assembly is revised anytime a part is revised is something that every company decides on their own, because they all have different circumstances and requirements. My opinion is that a minor revision to a part does not require a change to the assembly; if I've made some minor improvement or documentation change where I don't really care very much which revision is used, why would I change the assembly? If a part changes substantially, so that we would want to separate them out, then we change the part number (using a -01 or -02 or whatever on the end). Since the part has a new number, it means that the assembly has to change to use that new number.
        
        I just realized that the option that I showed you up above just sets the default for when you go to check out or download files from WPDM. You need to be sure the radio button shown below is clicked to get the latest revisions, although it should come up the way that the default is set.
        
        I also reread your original post and don't have a clue how any of this affects the list created by the vault reporting features, as I never use those. I don't think any of my posts have been the least bit helpful. Sorry for wasting your time.

        I agree with you on whether or not to advance the revision of top level assembly when child get revised.
        Actually WPDM doesn't have BOM feature like EPDM and I wanted to print out BOM with latest part revision using reporting feature.
        I don't have access to EPDM.
