When saving a new assembly I get an error that says it can not access the auto recovery file of the new assembly file. It then wont allow me to save. Any help would be appreciated.

I did that. Then I get the error that says "an unknown error occurred while accessing the new assembly name. and I still cant save
Have you rebooted the system and retried saving?
You may have to run a repair of SW or reset the SW registry key.

I've had similar issues with saving existing assemblies, and when that happens I just save it to a new name, then delete the old file and re-name the assembly back to the original name. I realize you said this is a new assembly, but have you tried saving it with a different name? I don't have high hopes for that, but it's worth a shot.
Disable the Auto-recover option.
