I had reservations about posting the gun model but it does
seem to be a popular contest.
I was going to post a pocket knife model for April but didn't for
the same reservations of posting the gun model.
It's becoming difficult to find good quality interesting models for
the contest. I posted the tooth brush for April and I'm not sure
how well it will be recieved? It's a really basic model and may not
generate interest. Although, part of the challenge of photo
rendering is effectively displaying the product (model) no matter
what it is.
Maybe I need to start or team up with someone on a modeling
contest. A product is chosen and models are submitted of that
product (for example a phone, power tool, jewelery, etc) The best
model (as voted on by site visitors) wins the modeling contest and
is used for the next month's PhotoWorks contest.
I think a modeling contest could be fun. We would have to
come with things from scratch, as I can't just use something that
my client's own.
Do we all work on one suggested product? For insatnce, is the
contest to come up with a phone model? Or is a theme picked, like
Measuring. Or is it a free for all?
I suppose some of the answers to these questions would be based on
the over all goal of the modeling contest. My goal for the contest
is gain a good quality model for the PW contest. The first step is
to define the goal of the contest. Would we model an existing
product, create new concepts of existing products, develop totally
new ideas, etc. I don't think a free for all would work?
We would also need to find someone to manage the contest.
You might be able to find a company (probably smaller) that
would like free renders of their products. They could provide the
models, however detailed they would like, maybe some logos, and end
up with a free promo render! Now finding those types of companies
may be a bit more difficult....
