I have SolidWorks 2008-2009 Student Edition with COSMOS, can I run it on Windows 8.1 64-bit Operating system? If so, how do I do it? Do I need a driver or is there any other way to make the software work?
Given the fact that 2012 and 2013 are not compatible with Windows 8 according to this link I am going to say no.
I agree with Scott - it is highly unlikely that it will work. If it does, there's no guarantee that it will work reliably.
Somewhere between, "read and follow the system requirements" and "try it and see what happens" is a helpful answer
You might be able to trick SolidWorks into installing on 8.1 by running it in compatibility mode. I do that with SolidWorks 2009 on Windows 7 and get generally OK results.
Assuming you were able to get it running - I am wondering how you would activate the license?
I think the student license is generally for something like 12-15 mths.
I was thinking about that too, but figured this was such a shot in the dark it wasn't worth it to find out all of the ways it can fail.
