Sorry for the newbie question here.
Trying out Workgroup PDM. In the process of experimenting with making changes and checking in I have ratcheted up the revision numbers/letters on some components. Now that I am finished with the project I want to take all the revision numbers and change them to the base revision (A) because that is really the starting point for this project. I DO NOT want to rollback the the A version.
How would I do this?
I don't think you can change the rev to a previous level, for example if you have a part that is currently on rev C you can't change it to Rev A without rolling back. You can only bump the rev to a future rev level.
We don't use lifecycles but we set up our revision scheme to have X be the first rev level, so it goes X, A, B, C... Then when a project is in R&D we keep it in X so the PDM revs would be X-01, X-02 etc. Then when it is time for the official release we bump the rev to A.
Although it can be a bit "chancy" you can allow the latest rev to be overwritten without bumping (see "rev bumping")
I have attached a screen shot of our lifecycle usage screen.
Both of these came from the "pdmw vault admin" settings.
Delete from vault, then you can check A in again.
Our company uses a "Phase" system shepherding work thru the system. Phase 1 and 2 denotes preliminary work and Phases 3, 4 and 5 are maintained for finished designs.
The Workgroup PDM rev system we set up makes use of lifecycles (or life stages) to control the rev levels. if a file is checked in under P1 or 2 status, it gets assigned a numeric rev level. After the design firms up and tooling is initiated the file is checked in under P3, 4 or 5 and the rev level gets assigned an alpha-designation starting with "A".
