I am in the process of creating a 3D surface of a stringer mold for a 39 foot offshore fishing vessel in Solidworks. I have realized that it would be much much easier for me if I was to simply create the stringer mold as if it was a 3D solid object (due to all the strange angles, fillets, and cambers involved) then convert it to a surface. Is this possible?
There might be an easier way, but one method would be to initiate the Offset Surface tool, set the distance to 0, then click in the graphics window (off the part) and hit ctrl+a, and it will select all of the faces. Then you can hide or delete the solid body.
