I am trying to convert the Hoffman website listing of 3D stp files to my Solidworks, Version 2013x64 edition. Using Windows 7. I get it downloaded into f1212t36hc.stp
The website for the file is: I click on 3D step
Hoffman: Product Catalog : Cable and Wire Management : Hinged Cover Wiring Trough, NEMA Type 12
What can I do to use their files rather than model each one.
Another file I have the same issue is
Hoffman: Product Catalog : Mild Steel : CONCEPT™, Type 4 and 12
Simply open those STEP files into SOLIDWORKS (you can drag the STEP file onto SW session) and the pick/select the templates for part/assembly as directed. And finally save them as required.
Are you facing any issue sin doing this?
I just tried downloading your file with no problem.
Do the following:
Download the 3D step drawing
Look where you downloaded it, there should be a zip file.
Open the zip file and inside you'll see the step file
Copy the step file to your clipboard
Back out of the zip file to desktop
paste the step file in your desktop
Open SW and select open file (select all files)
You'll see the step file open it up
It will ask for templates
And it loads just fine into SW
I'm thinking you tried saving the .zip file as a .stp file during downloading and that messed the file up.
I tried dragging the file from the download area. It was a .stp file. Wouldn't load from that location. I copied it, saved to desktop then opened it from SW. It opened just fine. Why not from the location it was saved to? I'll remember this tip for others. Thanks, Appreciate the help and how fast it was answered.
Are you default templates setup correctly? Have a look under tools>options>default templates.
Are they pointing at the correct location for the part and assembly template files?
Work just loaded up my SW a few days ago. I'm rusty using it so getting back into it. I checked the default location. It refers to the default templates. I'll try the other replies.
