Trouble installing on a clean Windows install

The laptop was getting slow and it was time to clean it all up, so instead of just formatting, I plopped in a new HD and started fresh without any of Acer's added junk, just a clean Windows 7 64bit

I reinstalled Windows 7, and all my drivers, and now when trying to install Solidworks 2014 I'm getting an error that the windows installer didn't do something correctly, regarding set_QuiteModeActions.

I have looked up error code 1603 and tried just about every solution that I could find onlineI've even tried using the same display drivers as before as well as new ones but I still receive the same error around 7% of the install of Solidworks.

Anthony, have you installed service pack one of Windows 7? According to the release notes, 2014 won't install on the unpatched version of Windows.

  I believe the version of windows I'm using has service pack 2 preinstalled with it, it was a digitalriver download..
  
  I'm not sure what would be different, because previously it installed on Windows 7 without any issue and I'm not sure if it was even SP1.... maybe it was.

    Windows 7 does not have a service pack 2. Only SP1....

      My bad, then my previous install may or may not have had SP1, that depends on weather or not SP1 was out before my laptop was made/purchased.
      
      This recent clean install however is SP1, so Solidworks should install.
      
      As I understand it this error is mainly Windows Installer related?
      
      I just don't understand how I was able to get it installed without any issues on my other Windows 7 hard drive, and yet it won't install on this new, cleaner and more up to date windows install.

If you're trying to install SolidWorks from disc, copy it all to your hard drive and try installing it from there. Also, while it shouldn't be an issue any longer, you might want to make sure your AV is disabled.

  The only thing I have as far as AV right now is Microsoft security essentials, and I was getting this error before MSE was installed.
  The only other thing that comes close is Symantec System Recovery and it only does virus scanning if you boot to the recovery disk.

  Any random chance that installing it to a directory OTHER than program files would cause this error?

Use windows update, install all the recommended updates and then have another go. Sounds like it could be a prerequisite problem and the installer doesn't have all the files it needs to install correctly.

  I've tried installing before updating, and I spent 6 hours the other day waiting for windows update to install every available update (all 210), then attempted to install SW again only to receive the same error message.
  
  There are no more updates left to install at this point.

    It might be worth installing a different graphics card driver and trying again. That error seems to be caused by the graphics card driver or related software.

      I kind of tried that..... I downloaded the official nVidia drivers from nVidia, instead of using the current/supplied drivers which I backed up with Iobit driver backup pro.
      
      That still didn't solve the problem.
      
      I completely stumped at this point... Like I said I've tried almost all of the solutions posted online pertaining to this problem, and the fact that I have this installed fine on my other HD is even more frustrating especially considering that there isn't much of a difference except this new HD is way more up to date,

        This is the knowledge base item on that error, maybe it can help.
        
        This has been reported with users of Lenovo® mobile workstations. The problem is due to the graphics driver included with the Lenovo installation of Windows® 7 x64 and NVIDIA® graphics cards. To resolve the issue:
        
        1) Download the certified driver from SolidWorks.com
        2) Download a driver clean up utility. SolidWork's does not recommend a particular third party solution, the user uses third party software at their own risk
        3) Type “Programs and Features” in the Start search bar
        4) In Windows “Programs and Features”, uninstall the NVIDIA graphics driver and any associated programs such as NVIDIA® nView® Desktop Manager and Performance Drivers. The screen will refresh to the Windows default display.
        5) Reboot the machine and start the next session in Safe Mode by clicking the F8 key during the boot up process, in the “Advanced Boot Options” select Safe Mode and proceed
        6) Run the Driver Sweeper/clean up utility and discard of any NVIDIA driver remnants
        7) Now install the SolidWorks certified NVIDIA drivers previously downloaded
        8) Once rebooted install SolidWorks.

        There is no certified driver for my GT520M. They only seem to have drivers for the Quadro and GRID video cards.
        
        Back to the drawing board I guess..... I've been trying, and still have been unsuccessful in getting Solidworks to install or correct this ridiculous error.

        Which version of Windows7 is it? It needs to be Pro or Premium for SolidWorks to run correctly.

Anthony, let's see the detailed installation log-the one whose path is shown at the top of the log you posted. Before you put it up, however, you should go in and remove your serial number.

  Anyway, I was finally able to get it installed, but it involved me formatting the drive again, and installing Solidworks 2014 immediately after windows was finished installing. I installed it before installing any drivers or doing anything else.
  
  So this is now solved.....even though it took many hours of my life and drastic measures to finally solved lol.
