I have a cone made from 18 ga (.048) 304 ss, how wide should the gap be?
We usually leave no gap for thin material (under 16ga where I work). Also, it really depends on the process you're using... and if you worry about warpage at all, I would recommend tacking each 4 inch. And if you have a long weld, do some alternate welding to disperse the heat. But if you have already tried and didn't like the results, i would try around .025" (half thickness)
