I am trying to rename a model.
It is stored on a Server on our Fibre-optic Network.
The model references ONE drawing and ONE Assembly.
It is takes 10 minutes of searching then it gives the dreaded headline (Not Responding) and hangs.
Agreed, it is too slow to be useful.
I have the same problem with explorer.
While trying to rename files using explorer, it searches for a while and then crashes.
I have booked an SR in 2015 Beta Lets see if solidworks does something.
Do you have the Search parameters set to only search the SW folders?
I dont know what exactly did you mean by that.
Below is a screenshot from Explorer options. It crashes with and without the 3DCC Results option.
If you haven't set the folders where the SW models are stored, SW will needlessly search every folder on your system ... and may not even attempt to search any network folders.
I have the where used location set as below. This is my working folder for solidworks.
As Mark said, just set it for the folder that you are currently working on as it has to search the entire directory before it lets you rename it. This can be a pain if you have large design library folders. The only other alternative I can think of is to use Workgroup PDM if you have a Professional or Premium license as its included for free.
"Do you have the Search parameters set to only search the SW folders?"
"If you haven't set the folders where the SW models are stored, SW will needlessly search every folder on your system ... and may not even attempt to search any network folders."
The search parameters were set to look in the correct folders.
I've been using the software for 15 years, some years it worked, some it didn't - That's just Solidworks for ya.
if you know what you are doing, you don't need SW explorer at all. i haven't used it in years and never ran into a problem. I've always hated the SW explorer
So they waste time halfassing a program you dont apparently need. But it seems like a great deal because it fills up a list on the "whats included" column.
(typing this while I wait for Solid(does it?)work to restart after crashing for the 3rd time today)
I use SW Exp all the time. It's a little slow, but it doesn't crash and isn't painfully slow.
Is your 'fiber-optic' network all the way to your PC, or a hub?
If to a hub in the ceiling, then a copper data cable, if the cable is next to power cables, it can slow transmission.
Retrieving data ...
