Large assembly vs Part performance

Question asked by Ari Arponen on Aug 7, 2014

Ok, I have tons of .stp files and usually those files are made of over 100 parts. And I need to make one main assembly from those files. Most of the files cannot even import into solids. So they stay as imported surface. So will it be best to save these big assemblies as they come in import, or should I save the assemblies into one part? I only need the "exterior" surfaces from these parts.

For example, one floor can consist of 100 part. And I can use it as just one part. So atleast considering file management it would be best to save it into one part file. But Im more worried about the performance. Because there are lots and lots of these big assemblies to put together.
