Is there a way to make welds from a part show up in a rendering?
You can try this decal Mike!
If you want to get ultrarealistic welds you can use a feature in PV360 called displacement mapping. It, unfortunately does not work on the assembly weld feature but works if you create a weld bead and then assign displacement mapping to it with the weld.png found in the SW data>images>weld folder. Be sure to uncheck "Normal Map" and then click on Displacement map. See attached.
And you can only do this for parts, not assemblies?
Not sure. I am sure that the assembly weld bead feature does not render in PV ( are for RealView and drawings only.) So you could make virtual part in an assembly that could be assigned with the appear properties to get the look that I show.
What do you mean make virtual part?
In the assembly go to insert component, new part. pick a face or plane and It will create an inplace mate for the new part. It will live inside the assembly, not as a stand alone part. If you want to save it to its own file, right click and select Save Part(In External File)
