There seems to be an issue installing edrawings on Vista. I was wondering will any previous version of edrawings ie 2013 or below open Solidworks 2014 files?
No, I don't have Windows 7 or 8 installed. Bottom line is that you can't view SW 2014 files on edrawings 2013 or before and you can't install edrawings 2014 on Vista or XP as Microsoft decided not to support SW on Vista or XP after 2012/2013.
Thanks for your help anyway. I appreciate it.
You can't open higher version files in lower version
What kind of issues you're facing in installation?
Thanks for your reply. There seems to be a common problem with Windows XP and Vista in that SW 2014 wont install on these versions. Microsoft have eliminated support for XP at 2012 level and Vista at 2013 and so edrawings 2014 is not supported according to what I have read.
During installation the application tells me that it will only install on Windows 7 or 8. Go Engineer have posted a method of installing onto XP or Vista provided that Windows 7 or 8 is on the same PC and acts as donor, but if you have 7 or 8 installed you wouldn't need to go this route.
I've not tried there method since I've no XP or Vista machine to check. But yes that tip is quite useful for someone running both OS types on different machines.
Have you tried saving a file from edrawings 2014 as exe file and then opened up that file on XP/Vista? Not sure but feels like that should work too.
I don't understand what you mean. How can I save an edrawings 2014 file as an exe file and the open it up on XP/Vista?
Are you saying to do this in Solidworks? I only have 2008 installed. This is why I am trying to install edrawings.
I thought you wanted to have 2014 files open up in edrawings but missed out that you're not able to install it. Sorry for the confusion.
Attached is an edrawings exe file from 2014. Check if you can open the file on your system (hopefully that is 64 bit machine). This file is generated via save as exe from edrawings.
PC is x86 (32 bit machine)
So did you tried the Go Engineer method??
It is not a common problem, it is as designed.
eDrawings 2014 does not support Windows XP or Vista.
You can find this information on the SolidWorks System Requirements page. See the section on eDrawings.
