Threaded shafts or pipes are threaded so they can be connected to other things. A solid model of the threads is kind of silly and making a free end at a cut boundary to eliminate other misc details from the model is prefered for all analysis tasks. After cutting the shaft or pipe there are no features for orientation and I don't see an easy method for applying a moment in SolidWorks Premium Simulation. How do I put moments with various orientations on the end of the shaft using?
Sorry. That is not helpful. The problem is not being able to define orientation without a feature available at the correct location. I don't want to create fictitious features in the SolidWorks model to use in definining analyses. Is there a way to define orientation with a coordinate system?
you can define orientation with planes, axes..etc. so i'm not sure i understand where you're running into issues. the software is WYSIWYG, so if it isn't selectable (a csys), it is a current limitation. that limitation may actually be in the solidworks kB if you want tocheck, customerportal.solidworks.com
