I would like to add knurling to a cylindrical part (or at least the illusion of knurling)
what options do I have?

hei'ya Jared, we had this a couple weeks ago,
check for similar top right of the post "more like this"
but here's the simple solution "appearance"
if you have knurls under the appearances you can use that,
select the surface and open the appearances menu,
drag and drop the one you want-
with this scrnsht you need to set the mapping-
size and orientation and confirm
the att-prt file is with a custom knurl1
hope this helps- have a good'n kelef
Hi all,
Under the Appearance header (to add the Knurl) under what sub heading file would this Knurl be in?
I thought it used to be Miscellaneous - Real View but I only have options for cosmetic hole pattern & rough draft.
It was some time ago since I last used it and may be mistaken to where it used to be.
Thanks
Mark
thanks! I used the split from the link Keith posted and then the info from other post that Deepak and Kelef posted and used the waffle, worked great.
Now that i am using different appearances in the different configurations i had an interesting thing show up- all but the default configuration show up as solid black in the shadded drawing views- even when there is no appearances yet applied to them!? any ideas? they are supposed to be the standard gray color and are that way in the configuration even when viewing the model....
Jared,
Hello. This is a popular topic. Searching the web for "solidworks knurling" will get you many options.
I work for a reseller - here's our post on the alterative to an actual knurl:
