I have a stair tower (8 floors) as a weldment. Now I'd like to break out all the weldments into their sub-weldments. What's the best way to select objects I want included in the sub-subweldment? My cutlist consists of 906 parts to if I have to scroll up and down much, I may lose my mind.

Being a "weldment" SLDPRT part file, it doesn't have the Form New Subassembly option. I can only create Subweldments in the cut-list. But selecting all the parts seems like a tedious task

I have bigger problems now. Apparently I created too large of a weldment (Cut list: 2100). It's almost useless now. I can't create drawings without it crashing and basically can't modify it anymore.
try creating 8 parts, one for each floor and add them to an assembly.
in those 8 parts you could have other parts inserted into them.
these other parts could be common sub-weldments to all floors.
use mates to locate the sub-weldment part into main weldment part.
patterns can help as well.
Is that something I can do now...after I've created the full weldment? Now that I see the file size issue, I realize I should have done it with separate files. This was a crash course in weldments & 3D sketches. I wasn't thinking about how large the model would get. Quite a learning experience!
That is one BIG weldment. At a glance I'd have to say it's a candidate for "Save as. . ." and delete everything that isn't part of the desired sub-weldment, This will probably take some trial and error (and checking Parent/Child relations) to get everything working properly. Then when you have all your sub-weldments, make an assembly out of them. Depending on how you've made it, you may be able to delete all the bodies from your original weldment and use as a layout sketch of sorts for your assembly.
Also, if you happen to have some back-ups from before the weldment got so big, it might be easier to use one of those for some of the sub-weldments.

Levels 1,2 & 3 are all different. Level 4 & mid-platform start a repeating pattern. I used one file since it was so easy to reference the structural models/sketches below as I went up. I suppose I could do that if I brought one weldment into an assembly & started a new weldment inside it. Yes? The beast is attached

I'm on 2013 so I can't see directly.
I opened in 2013 as imported multibody (saved future version as parasolid).
Anyway, you will have quite a few sub-weldments.
You need to approach this just as you would in real life.
Create the stair riser sections (5 or 6), hand rails (5 or 6) and landings (3) as separate files.
I just did a quick glance at determining those numbers, so not completely accurate.
Those files can then be inserted into an empty weldment so that you can add clips and misc items.
I hate to say start over since I can't see the real feature tree and the parent child relationships. If you can save as multiple times and weed out the unique sub-weldments then you will be ahead. If not, you might need to start fresh.
At this point I'm cutting the sections & views I need, then saving them as AutoCad files to detail. This project is already behind since I decided to dive head first into learning weldments. AutoCad is our familiar comfort zone so we can finish rather quickly still. Next time I'll definitely set it up with separate weldments in an assembly! Like I said before, this has been quite a learning experience. Thanks for the tips
ok i took a stab at it.
i found 6 unique landings and 7 unique stair risers. i didn't do the hand-rails. i'm guessing you'll have another 6 or 7 files for the hand-rail sub-weldments
i saved your file as parasolid to import into 2013
i then used that file as a master and inserted the bodies into individual files.
these files are linked to master.
any change to master will propagate to these files.
there are no mates because i used your 2014 file to mate to. i deleted your file because it was huge and i couldn't upload to forum.
ideally you would mate to "master" part but since i was hiding bodies as i created parts i didn't know which body to unhide for mating to.
i used an assembly to gather up the components but you could use a part instead. using a part to gather the sub-weldments will give you access to weldment features.
this is just one approach.
That's great! I'm a little fuzzy on how you created the assemblies. How did you insert the bodies? Did you use the master to select the parts then Insert into new part? Which you then inserted into the new assembly?
yes, that's correct.
there's only one assembly.
i started the assembly by inserting the master part and (f) fixed to origin.
then i inserted the individual parts and mated to the master part.
this keeps everything located and positioned.
the multi-body weldments (parts) are created by selecting bodies in master part and then selecting "insert into new part". use a filter (F5) to select bodies.
any changes to master part will propagate to parts with inserted bodies.
these individual parts (6 landings and 7 stair risers) have the weldment feature applied and cutlist generated.

you can make sub-assemblies from current assembly,
by selecting in the graphics and press/hold the shift/control key or box selection(if applicable),
RMB to get the fly-out menu and select "Form New Subassembly Here",
and assign a name or select a template for the new sub-assembly
