Recently, my dept chair had a meeting with a large company in our area who use Pro-E for their design software. In this meeting, he was told that Solidworks would no longer be supported after 2016. He also said that if this is true, our college must start looking for a different software for our Drafting and Design curriculum.
Can anyone shed some light on this please?
I can tell you that this is not true. And this was also made clear during SOLIDWORKS WORLD 2014 again that DS would keep running it for its users and life end has been planned.

It sounds like people at that large company were listening to someone who was more interested in making a sale than in being truthful.
Agreed - It sounds suspiciously like something a Pro-E salesdroid might say.
