When converting assemblies into parts, pieces of parts start to go missing. We rebuild them within the part file and colour it. When reopenned the whole part is that colour.... please help!
Which problem are you wanting a solution for? The disappearing pieces of parts, or the colour?
Neither problem should be happening. What are your system specs?
What do you mean by "pieces of parts"? (sketches, features, bodies, ???)
How are you colouring the rebuilt "pieces"?
We have made several models of valves with shafts sticking out of them.
Any valve model (as a part) looks correct; all the pieces are as they should be, in the correct place and orientation, with the correct colours.
In an assembly, the valve and shaft also look correct.
But when we save the assembly as a part, the valve shaft disappears.
Sometimes other faces change colours for no reason.
I realize that we probably shouldn’t save assemblies as parts but we do it to save space as we’re putting these on our website and want to keep the file sizes down.
First of all, there is nothing wrong with saving an assy as a part. That ability has many practical uses.
When saving to a part, make sure the All Components option is selected.
The changing colour sounds like a graphics card/driver problem. Run the SolidWorks Rx > Diagnostics tool to check.
What are your system specs?
Can you ZIP a small assy (complete with parts) which exhibits the problems, and upload it here for review?
Yes All Components option is selected when saving as a part.
I attached the diagnostic information below.
The system specs are:
- Solidworks 2009
- Microsoft XP 2002
Service pack 3
3.20 GB of Ram
This was all working fine until a few weeks ago.
The zip file and the part file are ready but I can't seem to upload them here. Here is a link to a dropbox folder.
Thank you for your help in advance!
The problem is almost certainly the lack of a discrete approved graphics card. The regular integrated Intel HD cards (i.e. the non-"P" versions) are not suitable for SW.If you have been runnin SW without problems till now, you have been lucky. Maybe a recent Windows update has upset the balance.
To upload files, use the Use advanced editor link at the top RH corner of the Reply box.
Thank you for your help so far.
Here are the uploaded .zip and part files.
Thank you in advance!
I see no problem on my machine. Try using an approved graphics card & driver.
Sorry forgot to mention which part was missing. The part number that is hightlighted and in blue (C96) on the right side image is missing as well as the pvc coloured shaft in the middle of it (which is part of the valve and not the C96 part).
OK. I'm seeing that also now, but only with the Exterior Faces option. The other two options work fine.
If you are on subscription, submit that to your VAR as a bug.
EDIT: Even curiouser!
The Exterior Faces option works when any combination of the C96F080 part and any 2 of the other 3 are unsupressed.
I have saved your assembly as a part & the items you say vanish are showing OK as you can see from the image below.
My option was set to ALL COMPONENTS & I ended up with 3 solid bodies & 3 surface bodies, where as you ended up with 8 surface bodies for some reason.
Perhaps it's your version of SolidWorks, I'm on 2014 SP4
Try saving with the Exterior faces option. (See also my previous post)
I get the same result as you when selecting Exterior Faces option, the parts disappear & I get 8 Surface bodies. I thought that Pierre had said he used the All Components option, yet he had 8 Surface bodies as if he used Exterior Faces option. Perhaps it's due to the fact he is using SW 2009.
I have discovered if I supress the part BKB-F10-A & then save as a part with Exterior Faces option, then the shaft & C96 part show up OK. If I open up the hole in the BKB part as there is interference with C96 part (I think BKB might be assembled upside down) & save as a part with BKB Unsupressed, then some of the C96 part shows up but the shaft is still missing.
