FeatureWorks converts each assembly component into its own part file. I want a single multibody part file comprised of all the converted componenets from the assembly file and I'd like to do it all as a single command. How do I do that?

If you're looking for a way to convert assembly into multibody part which can be edited, then it is not possible. You may use featurework to convert the saved part file made from assembly using save as part option to some extent but not fully (depending on the complexity of your parts).
On the other side why you need that and what is the issue in using the assembly file?
The assembly should've been a weldment. I'm wishing not to have to start from scratch on a multibody part. The assembly completes the saveas operation with complete success. Every "dumb" body is correct but I just can't have "dumb" bodies as a finished model. It has to have editable features.
The best you might do it insert/join parts into one part and then you can use that main part as weldment. This way you can have the editable parts but end result would be one part.
"Combine" doesn't succeed. In most cases I want to import an IGES file, not much unlike this assembly/part, and turn it into and editable Solidworks multibody. Too bad FeatureWorks doesn't work as one would anticipate.
Not sure as why you need to use combine in this assembly case? Did you tried inserting parts into part? OR using Join option (this is available Under insert > features when you edit a part in the assembly)
It seems that nothing I try results in what I want which is to have SW recognize the newly created part as having editible features. SW has the feature data when it does the save. Why the process is not coded to bring it in is a mystery to me.So, until it does the best thing for me to do in these cases is just start the multibody part from scratch. Frankly, I don't see any use for being able to save an assembly as a part if the editible features aren't part of it...
Thanks for struggling along with me, DG.
Would you please raise an ER for this.
