I have a company logo in a EPS and AI type file and need to put it on a part and get it machined. how can it be converted if at all
You could download free software that can open ai files like Inkscape, then save as a dxf. The dxf can be imported into solidworks as a part sketch.
.ai file can be opened natively into SW thru the open>file dialog. sw2010> you must have Illustator installed on the same PC as SW.
Some applications don't support saving splines from EPS or AI when exported to DXF/DWG. You will know if this happens if you end up with lots of short line segments in the SolidWorks sketch instead of smooth curves..
If you can't get the curves to transfer as a spline, you may be able to convert the curves to a series of tangental arcs, but this ability depends on the application.
Its also possible to fit a spline in SolidWorks to a series of line segments if you are not able to import it as a spline or arcs.
