    General Arrangement drawing size

When detailing a sub assembly in a drawing in 2014 and referencing back to the top level assembly, is there a way to make the top level assembly "weight-less" where it will show in phantom lines, be greyed out and have very little impact on the drawing size wise?

I generally insert the part which a subassembly mounts onto at the top of the subassembly feature tree, and set it to "Envelope" in its properties.

This will make the upper level part have zero mass, be excluded from your BOM, and show as a transparent turquoise part in your model.

To make it greyed out in a drawing, create a new layer, set it to grey, and move any parts that you don't want to detail to this grey layer.
