I Have set up a table to put material thickness but was wondering if there is a way to get it to read the sheet gage instead of the decimal thickness?
How about setting it up as a custom property and using that in the BOM? I have a drop down with the gage and decimal and the bend deduction the model was done with, that populates the Material box on the drawing sheet.
You could set up a design table so that you can select sheet metal gauges. When you select a guage, your "Thickness" is controlled, and a cell labelled $PRP@GAUGE is filled in. This will be accessible to your title block. Read up on design tables and configuration specific parameters.
I strongly prefer a dimension with tolerance to control thickness. If you can stand a sloppy thickness tolerance, your fabricator may be able to select from several available gauges. This may save time and cost. It is very hard for your inspector to reject parts based on gauge size. A thickness with a ± tolerance is inspectable.
I know I am resurrecting an old post but this idea you have seems very useful to what I need to do. Could you explain a little more on how you would go about setting up the design table?
