Normall a right claick of the material in the part tree material would provide the means to edit the material . After installing 2014, I am unable to perform this task.
Previous resolution require a register value change, however in 2014 the values are not the same. Any thoughts on how to resolve this problem

This problem was resolved with the insallation of SP 4 of 2014. As soon as I implemented this patch problem resolved

Since installing the patch fixed it and other users have not reported any problem with earlier versions of 2014, you probably had a bad installation.

do you mean it's not on the RMB menu,
have you checked the custom menu,
and toggled "Edit Material"
hope this helps, if not post a scnsht of what is displayed,
or use the advanced editor- top right of the reply pane,
to upload a sample/dummy file so members can check your settings,
use attach files> browse- bottom left of the pane
