in my solidworks network mgr i see there is a 2d editor for dwg.
not sure how to access this, is this like a sub for Autocad lite or similar?? i need a way to edit my files that were in autocad, thinking this may be an option.
It might have been from a previous install
I think from SW2011, it doesn't come with the 2D editor.
You can download and install Draftsight, a free version that replaces 2D editor for DWG
thanks - i will check it out, it must be from an earlier install.
I see that it is a DS product
did you use AutoCad in the past? if so whats your opinion of Draftsight??
Draftsiight is quite capable and not terribly different from ACAD in use. You can't beat the price!
great!, i have been looking at it, i guess my only concern is that most of my files are .dxf and it looks like this is .dwg ?? - unless there it will open a dxf i will need to find a way to convert.
Thanks for the tip, i will get it downloaded later today and give it a go!
Yes it can do both DWG and DXF. Great tool to use at no cost
this is good news! thanks for all the help now i dont need to worry about what to do with some of my layouts that i will keep in 2d!
Draftsight will use dxf as well as dwg.
My main criticism of it is that it's not parametric. ie if you change a dimension on a sketch, the sketch will not alter itself to match.
I am familiar with this frustration, but i only use it for simple electrical schematics so at this price it will work just fine, Thanks!
i think this is a great sub for autocad for my use. Thanks again for the help!
