    Save face as dxf / Dwg

      To save a dxf / dwg of a part you would normally right click on the face of the part and click export to dxf / dwg. Then choose sheet metal and then i would click the bend lines, keeping geometry as selected. Then click save on the pop up window.

       

      All this takes a lot of time if you have a few hundred to create!

       

      All i want to do is select the face and click a macro button or a shortcut ket back to the macro button.

       

      Must have been done before... any help welcome.

          I found this code on the forum but it doesnt work for me... how do i get this to work? It also seems very complicated for just exporting a DXF. It must be doing somthing else?

              Nick, can you give it a shot. Please try on sample files first.

               

              This has been tested on SW2014 SP3 Win 7 x64. So in case you've lower version of SW, you may need to fix the reference libraries in the macro.

               

              Also this works for one face at a time. I'll try I can modify it further to add multiple faces.

                  Hi Deepak,

                   

                  It works at my end thanks.

                   

                  Ive tested it with chamfers on holes and it produces a dwg which shows the outer edge of the chamfer rather than the hole itself. I can suppress the chamfer before i create it but was just wondering if it was meant to do that within the macro? It would make sense that i supress the chamfer select the face, run the macro and then unsupress the chamfer.

                   

                  One more thing i have noticed is that it will not produce a dwg of a flat part WITH bendlines on. Can this be achieved or is there another macro out there for sheet metal parts only which has this functionality? Maybe this could be written in? Do you get the same results?
