For those of using DimXpert regularly, how often do you use DimXpert's auto dimensioning functionality?
For those of using DimXpert regularly, how often do you use DimXpert's auto dimensioning functionality?
I've got some responses here before. I know there are customers using them regularly. I also know it's not "everyone".
Hi Matthew,
We are not currently using DimXpert due of our lack of knowledge with it. Now that we purchased SolidProfessor I plan on spending time going through this area in particular to see if it fits in with our current flow. We cut a lot of parts directly from the models which is one step towards going paperless which something like DimXpert is almost going to be a must.
I know in the past "Auto Dimensioning" worked great on a block with a couple of holes or cuts but when trying it with production parts such as large frames and weldments it took more time to clean things up then to drop them on yourself.
Thanks,
Bill
i use it sometimes just to see how it interprets the features. i'm not usually satisfied with how it interprets so i discard and manually add GDT.
i usually use DimXpert to verify that GDT is complete.
i sometimes import DimXpert annotations into drawing when feasible.
import results are usually similar to what one gets when importing dimensions, close but always tangled or in wrong view.
Never. There is no way that this function would ever be able to make a working drawing for manufacture. Some things still reqiure a brain.
Jody, the whole idea of the DimXpert is to eliminate the need for manufacturing drawings,

Are you confusing this function with auto-dimensioning?
Hello Kelvin, Yes, I thought the question was do you use auto-dimensioning. I don't see how any software could possibly know how or where to put dimensions and tolorances on something that a human being has made concious decisions on each and every detail for specific reasons that only he knows.
I'm all for it if thats how it works! :-)
It is also important to make the distinction from auto dimensioning to auto tolerancing, which this was never intended to do. It is very close to being fully functional, but my contention still is why redo all the work that you have done in dimensioning the sketches, find a way to leverage them into Dimxpert.
Anything at all. Anything about DimXpert?
