Hi, I am trying to set up a simple machining template for fixture parts in solidworks. How to make it understand the process for machining dowel holes, drill holes, tapped holes ?
Generally all holes are automatically recognized as drilling operations and if you use hole wizard holes to define tapping we will racognize those operations as well. Always make sure that the proper tools are available in the template to choose though, as we try to drill out holes with the closest-diameter drill bit by default.
Dowel holes are not specifically called out but if you want to account for additional tolerances or tapping/finishing operations you can right click the drill feature and select "add operation" and select a reamer or tapping tool to be added to a basic hole.
You can also add a custom operation located in the top left of the costing manager to add a face-based finishing operation for high-tolerance holes
Hope this helps!
hi, how do i add new drill sizes?
You add drill sizes in the template when you define the manufacturing operations (Operations). Drilling is set under "Drill". You must have defined a machine under "Machine" and a material to be machine under "Material" and subgroup "Machining" first. The diameters of the tools (D), and the tool type (Tool Type) can be entererred for each material you have defined. Hope this helps.
