Hey Everyone,
We had a corrupted windows files this morning. We were able to get the Solidworks files off the hard drive and put it on another machine, but the new machine is not recognizing the real file types and calling them "SldWorks 2014 Application" the seem to work correctly but causing us concern. has anyone seen this or have a fix?

Could they be autosaved backup files?
Try showing file suffix...
I'm on SW 2013, but I had this very same problem.
I found the solution was to tell Windows to open files with Solidworks Launcher instead of just Solidworks. I simply had to right click on a .SLDPRT file, go to Properties, and change the "Opens with:" option to Solidworks Launcher. Did the same thing for a .SLDASM and .SLDDRW file and everything is back to normal!
I had this same issue after upgrading to 2015.
It was showing the icons for the files as generic cad files, just like the parasolid and Inventor files, all showed the same icon.
I went to the Opens With and saw they were actually set to open with SolidWorks Launcher.
I had not noticed this before (because it was always working) and I never had to go to the Opens With for SW files.
After I changed to Opens With Solid Works it got even worse and I have files that would not correctly link or be understood.
I finally cleaned my registry since the Opens With showed other programs to open with also - that were not applicable.
Then I changed back to "Opens With "SolidWorks Launcher" and all has been fine since.
