I'm bit new to this whole sheet metal buisness and cant find much help in videos on youtube so thought i'd ask here.
Im trying to roll this sheet into a cone style shape and join it like in the pictures ive attatched. Would anybody know how I would go about doing this, it has to join straight along the bottom two edges so that the holes meet and the edges run parralell

I could save it as an iges file, but it would be a dumb file which, in the end, would defeat the purpose as you wouldn't be able to see how I created the part.
I added a section from my sheetmetal book on unrolling cones and cylinders. Also added the model used in the book called unroll. I also made a cone using the same idea and it worked for me.
Note: look at the sketch used to creat the "unroll" part, mainly the way they split the sketch. Hope this helps Tom

Im guessing that is the easiest way to make cone shapes then? Is there not a way to roll the model from a flat sheet in the first place at all?
only reason I ask is that I'm trying to almost exactly recreate a paper model I have made for a University project from a flat net that overlaps and can be joined at the overlap. I've attatched a photo to show you what I mean. I think im going to have a propper brain strain trying to figure out how to create the initial 3d model that has an exact square flattened net shape. I plan to just have a repeatative pattern cut out on the shape and then fold it up.
My other thought would be possibly making a flattened cone using your method then adding sketches onto the flat net to make my orginal model..... so that when you fold it again it creates the shape im looking for. is this possible?

I think the way I would do it would be to create the cone shape required. unfold, add the cutouts, then fold back up. Tom
I think to save you some time a would look into making one cut and then use the linear pattern command to add the other cutouts. That would be faster than trying to make one big sketch for the whole cutout.
Use lofted sheet metal. I've attached a quick example. If you're not on 2014 though, you won't be able to open it.
