Is it possible to create BoM in SW, export(or link) it to excel, make updates and import/save it back into SW?
I have a large assembly (about 2000 components) and many of the components are missing some or all of their custom properties. It would be much easier to add this information into an excel file where I can copy and paste then import back to SW rather then opening every component up and going into the properties and modifying.

Colleen, you can insert a BOM of your assembly into your drawing and type the values directly into the rows (you can past but it's a little more problematic) and push those values to the underlying models provide you have write access to them and you click Yes in this dialog box.
If you click the "Don't Show this again" checkbox, you can restore the warning in Messages/Errors/Warnings
If the property tag isn't in the file represented by the BOM item, it will be added. You have to have write access to the file in order for the settigns to stick
Having said that, I think the fastest method of systematically updating custom properties is to create a custom property pane with all of the attributes you want included in your files (shows up as a form in the task pane tabs) open your assembly, select the first item in your tree-the property pane will show it's attributes-and paste from Excel. Click Apply move onto the next item in the tree and repeat the process.
The property pane will also allow you to simultaneously push updates to all of the components of a selection. This is useful if you're adding properties like CAGE Code or Purchase/Manufacture.
