I am trying to simulate a wind turbine using solidworks simulations. I have wind turbine assembly and the assembly is fixed. The air of 20 mph hits the turbine in x direction. What types of boundary conditions that are needed just to know is the turbine gonna roate or not? If it rotates then how to know how much torque its gonna produce?
Can 20 mph air rotate the wind turbine or not? Is there anything to do with reference axis? I put velocity parameter and velocity in x direction at 29.33 ft/sec. I assigned external analysis type.
with an external analysis you may be able to get some idea of whether it will move but solidworks flow simulation does not perform fluid > structure interaction type studies like you need. the best you are going to get out of flow is an understanding of the pressures and forces and then you will have to develop a method yourself to estimate how fast it will rotate, how much torque will be generated..etc.
if it was a traditional fan (not pelton wheel type), we could use a rotation region to understand if the net torque is positive relative to the rotating region but that does not apply in this case.
