I use Solidworks at work, I would like to take the CSWA exam to show some competency. The only issue is that I do not have Solidworks at home. Can't really take a 3 hour test at work...
Install SW on your personal computer and borrow a license from work?
You will need SolidWorks.
Can't you take the test after hours at the office?
Hi Anna, thank you
Right, that's not good.
Is there a trial version or a home edition?
I guess I could stay late one night.
Does the test require a serial number to start?
you might also be able to schedule some time at you VAR
I am in the UK, what is a VAR?
Value Added Reseller - the people you actually pay for the software, subscriptions, and support.
I am think we buy our software direct from Solidworks. Not sure. Does the test require a serial number? I could always use the one from work...
the test software does not ask for a serial number.
I am pretty sure SW does not directly sell to anyone.
First, welcome to the forum!
The company who sells/supports your company with Solidworks is known as a VAR, or reselller.
What users are offered is a) a Home copy based on their current Work subscription; your VAR (reseller) has details on how to make that happen, and b) you may be entitled to take a Certification exam through your VAR, using their computers/equipment, at their location; quite possible at a discount price or free. You will need to research that more. However, at this point, the VAR is the next people to talk to.
Good luck and let us know how you progress!
Will do that Glenn. Thank you all!
If your license at work is "stand-alone" you should be able to activate on one backup location (home, for instance). If it is a network license, see if your company has obtained "Home-user licenses" from the VAR.
Regarding the VAR, I think the UK is the same as US - SW is purchased thru VAR's, not directly from SW Corp.
If your company is on a subscription your VAR will be able to give you free exams every 6 months for as long as your on subscription. Those are good for anyone using Solid Works at your company, even if you have more users than you do seats.
