Hi,
I need to create a geometry with curved tubes of varying length (see picture). I'm sure there is a way to use any kind of pattern. I tried a linear pattern, but this does not vary the tube length rather than just copy the exact feature. Does anyone know how to use a "smart" pattern?

Did you tried using the option "Instance to vary" in the linear pattern property manager.
I am using SolidWorks2012. I think the option is not available. However, I tried using "Vary sketch" in the Options of Linear Pattern. Below you can see that I chose the distance from the edge as Directions 1 and 2 and as a Feature the curved pipe. However, as you can see on the last picture, it also copies the feature without varying the sketch.

This may be one of the rare places where patterning in the sketch is better than patterning a feature.

I am not quite sure what you mean. When I pattern the sketch, I have to manually apply the loft feature to each sketch. This would be very time-consuming.
Thanks to your tip I could solve my problem:
- create two sketches:
a) radius on surface
b) a single circle at the end of the radius curve. use the linear sketch pattern so get multiple circles with a defined distance
- use swept cut. Select b) (group of circles) and a) (radius line). The feature will automatically produce multiple tubes
