We are currently looking for a way to insert text to a SolidWorks sheetmetal part in the form of a single line 6 digit number which we use as an internal part number. We also utilize punch press nesting software. Our goal is to be able to insert a 6 digit number on the part so it can be tooled in our nesting software using scribe tooling on an Amada punch press. I have tried different things I found in the forums but nothing has worked so far. I have tried regular text but this result in our tooling wanting to tool fit the perimeter of the number. I tried single line font but I’m not able to extrude or cut it so our nesting software will not recognize it. Is there a way to cut or extrude a single line font in Solidworks?
We are currently using SolidWorks 2013. Our nesting software is by Amada.
Would appreciate any help I could get on this one.
Thank You
New concept for me. But I tinkered with it a bit. This is my first idea, may not be the most efficient. Make the single line font you want on the sheetmetal >> Extrude surface from it >> Use Thickenend Cut to cut it out.
Actually, I guess this is my 2nd idea, I discovered that a thin feature cut did not seem to work.
It might take some time to set up, but once you have all your letters created how you want - and saved as blocks perhaps - you could just drop them in. But then you need to set up all the thickened cuts, looks like sometimes more than one per letter.
I used one shared sketch to contain all the letters (purple lines), but I found it worked better to have separate surface features for each letter. The "A" as sketched took 2 Cut-Thickens.
