Can you convert files from workgroup pdm into epdm? my company is worried that you can not do this.
Would anyone be willing to share how the conversion went?
The short answer is "Yes, contact your VAR."
There is a tool that SolidWorks has made available to the VARs for doing this. My understanding is that its not a tool for the customer to use, though - it has to be the VAR who uses it to help you migrate from WPDM to EPDM.
We're at the front-end of specifying how we want our WPDM->EPDM migration to work, so I don't have any feedback just yet.
We just go finished with a workgroup to EPDM migration and it is a very easy process. I am still in the process of working out bugs, but if your workgroup vault and files are set up properly, the migration is reasonably smooth. The only thing that I don't like about EPDM is with our network, SQL and archive server is at our corperate office several hundered miles away, there is now a lag in accessing data. I don't think that this will be the issue if all your servers are on site.
In best case.
What is your experience.
How long a migration would take an average workgroup ( about 200 GB ) system transfer into EPDM.
Incl. setup a testsystem and there is no customizing in workgroup !
Thanks for your answer in advance.
My workgroup vault at the time of migration was around 36 gig and it took about 19 hrs to make the move......
Inclusive setup the SWX Migration Tool ?
Is this tool avaliable though the solidworks web or from the VAR? Do you know how it changes the files? is it run on a server, or other machine(s)? Is it done by the VAR? And what is the costs involved?
You can write your own tool, but VARs have one provided by SW. It is not available to the public.
For speed reasons, it typically runs on a server.
Every VAR charges for services differently, you'll need to ask around. We do straight time and materials.
