I am a first-time user, evaluating the SolidWorks software. I am running SolidWorks Premium 2014 x64 Edition SP2.
During installation I was given very few or no options.
The SDK is really just a set of templates, but it shows up in Control Panel. I am on 2013x64, and the entry in the control panel Programs and Features reads "Solidworks 2013 API SDK". The SDK has to be installed separately, after SW is installed. You use the installation manager.
I have never used the SDK. Is it useful?
See chart below. If you are going to develop AddIns the SDK is required. You also need to be a profficient Visual Studio programmer.

Thanks. I've written add-ins for EPDM but not for SW. For EPDM I've used the EPDM add-in template.
